Awarded to Sr. Sergeant Dmitriy Ignatievich Laskovyi (Дмитрий Игнатьевич Ласковый)

 

For exceptional bravery during the February 1945 advance in Poland, personally eliminating a German sniper and machine gunners, capturing multiple German soldiers, and ensuring the successful advance of his unit

 

 

Note that Sgt. Laskovyi was bestowed his Red Star in 1945, but it took almost three decades before he actually received it. Hence the high serial number

 

 

Made of silver and enamels. Measures 48.35 mm in width, 46.31 mm in height and weighs 30.2 grams without its screwplate. The serial number is located at the 6 o’clock position and the mint mark on the 12 o’clock position of its reverse.

 

In superb condition with crisp details to the raised areas and a nice  patina to the silver on both sides. The beautiful enamels are extremely well preserved without repairs or even scratches. Its screw is full length and the comes with a well fitting screwplate.

 

Short excerpt and translation of the research:

On February 9th, 1945, during the advance on the town of Legnica [Poland], he bravely moved forward, broke through to the town’s outskirts, killed one German sniper, and captured three German soldiers. While clearing the airfield under machine-gun fire, he killed five German soldiers and captured one German corporal.

On February 16th, 1945, during the capture of the village of Los, he eliminated enemy machine gunners positioned in the attics of houses who were hindering the advance of our infantry.

For his displayed courage and effective combat actions, he deserves the Order of the Red Star.
