Brief description of his feat of arms or achievements:

Schegolev carried out a combat mission involving the deployment of minefields from winter to summer near the defensive line of the 992nd Rifle Regiment. Between April 16 and June 3, 1944, he demonstrated bravery, courage, personal initiative, technical skill, and composure under difficult and dangerous conditions.

Under his leadership, the platoon, despite intense rifle, machine-gun, mortar, and artillery fire, successfully disarmed 1,360 mines and installed 3,360, thereby securing the entire defensive line of the 992nd Rifle Regiment. On the night of April 29, 1944, the enemy attempted to break into the trenches of this line but, encountering a POMZ-2 minefield, suffered several casualties and withdrew.

For his excellent organizational efforts and the timely installation of minefields securing the 992nd Rifle Regiment’s defense, Schegolev received official commendation and was recommended for a state award.

In recognition of his outstanding performance in combat, it was proposed that Schegolev be awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd Class.
