Awarded to Sr. Lieutenant Dmitriy Semyonovich Datsko (Дмитрий Семенович Дацько)
For valor, boldness, and decisive leadership during offensive operations from 21–23 October 1943, when he conducted successful reconnaissance that revealed and enabled the destruction of multiple enemy batteries and positions, ensuring the regiment’s advance and fulfillment of its combat mission
Made of silver and enamels. Measures 48.18 mm in width, 46.92 mm in height and weighs 28.1 grams without its screwplate. The mint mark is located above, and the serial number underneath the screw post.
In nice, above average condition with medium wear to the silver medallion. Some of the details are worn off but most are are still visible. The enamels are problem free without repairs and only show some dings and scratches. The silver screwplate is time period to the order and its screw has not been shortened.
The order comes with its award booklet which is in problem free condition with all pages present and securely attached to the cover. This Red Star is the only award mentioned so technically this is a complete, documented grouping.
Brief and specific description of the personal feat or merits
During his assignment and participation in the regiment’s offensive operations, Senior Lieutenant Datsko has proven himself a valorous, bold, and decisive commander from 21.10-23.10.1943 in an attack on the villages of Eristovka and Kalinovka. While in a combined reconnaissance with the infantry he discovered five enemy mortar batteries, four artillery batteries, eight self-propelled cannons, and many other firing positions, reporting them in a timely manner and resulting in their suppression, the subsequent advance of our infantry, and occupation of hill 88.3 and the eastern edge of the village of Kalinovka. On 22.10.1943 while conducting a reconnaissance he discovered the enemy third battery hindering our advance forward, which was also destroyed and as a result permitted the accomplishment of the regiment’s combat mission. During the fighting, he achievement a series of heroic accomplishments, deserves the State award, the “Order of the Red Star”.
