Awarded to Scout Sergei Filippovich Matochka (Сергей Филиппович Маточка)
For courage during combat in Poland from January 14–20, 1945. As a scout in the 751st Rifle Regiment, Matochka identified enemy positions under heavy counterattack enabling effective artillery strikes. Two days later he captured two German soldiers near an anti-tank ditch, obtaining valuable intelligence that contributed to mission success
Made of silver and enamels. Measures 47.76 mm in width, 45.91 mm in height and weighs 30.1 grams without its screwplate. The mint mark is located above, and the serial number underneath the screw post.
In pristine condition with all details crisp and an appealing patina to the silver on both sides. The wine red enamels are very well preserved without scratches or chipping. Its screw has not been shortened and the order comes with its well fitted screwplate.
Its accompanying booklet is in problem free condition with all pages firmly attached to the cover. It mentions this Order of the Red Star next to a Medal for Bravery. Note the 10-year delay between the award being granted and physically received.
Brief and specific description of the personal feat or merits
Matochka Sergey Filippovich – red army soldier, scout of foot reconnaissance platoon of 751 rifle regiment of 165 rifle Sedletskaya order of Kutuzov 2nd Class division.
During advancing combats from January 14 to 20, 1945 in region of Lorcen, Krogule and Zareshbki – Poland comrade Matochka showed himself as brave and courageous soldier.
In January 16, 1945 in region of village Lorcen and Nuka 2nd rifle battalion was being in hard conditions, enemy by superior forces counterattacked, Matochka traced enemies and reported about them to head quarter of regiment, head quarter opened fire on these enemies and destroy their positions, survived Germans retreated.
In January 18, 1945 Matochka being in capturing group near anti-tank ditch captured 2 German soldiers what gave important information. Matochka by this contributed to success performing of combat task.
For showed bravery and courage Matochka deserves governmental award order “Red Star”.
