Researched Soviet Order of the Red Banner #68110

Awarded to Sr. Lieutenant Petr Lavrentievich Rodenko (Петр Лаврентьевич Роденко) for actionion during the MOSCOW Offensive

For personally eliminating 5 enemy firing positions and destroying an enemy gun crew by his hand grenades. Being wounded twice in this engagements, he remained on the battlefield and refused to go to a hospital

Made of solid silver and enamels. It measures 40.58 mm in height, 36.80 mm in width and weighs 22.1 gram without its screwplate. The serial number and the mint mark Monetni Dvor are located at the 6 o’clock position of its reverse.

The order is in an excellent, well above average condition with light overall wear and most gold plating still present. Even the higher laying parts such as the center wreath and the torch still show their details perfectly well. The enamels are in much better condition than most early Red Banners. The red enamel show some minor flaking and repairs on the center star but is otherwise problem free and fully present. The white enamel is flawless. The order has not been converted to a suspension type and the screwpost is full length. It comes with its time period and well fitted silver screwplate. Note the beautiful and interesting pattern of the silver on its reverse which is not the result of wear but of the production process.

Short Description of his feat of arms:

“Defending our Socialist Motherland in the battles against the German bandits, he proved himself as a true hero and a real son of the Motherland. He exhibited courage, bravery, and fearlessness. In the offensive near the village Gavrilovka, he twice led the battalion into an assault. In this engagements, he personally eliminated 5 enemy firing positions (an enemy heavy machine-gun) and destroyed an enemy gun crew by his hand grenades. Together with a group of 4 fighters, he captured 2 buildings eliminating in the process 6 enemy submachine gunner. He retreated only following the battalion commander’s order, which was given due to enemy numerical superiority by three times. Being wounded twice in this engagements, he remained on the battlefield and refused to go to a hospital. He deserves state award order “RED BANNER”.”
