Researched Soviet Order of the Red Banner #29965

Reissue/ Victory Parade Issue

Awarded to Military Commissar Nikolai Ivanovich Sadikov (Николай Иванович Садиков)

For commanding the regiment’s combat operations resulting in 1000 kills, destroying 11 tanks and taking 11 German soldiers prisoner

Made of solid silver and enamels. Measures 46.44 mm in height, including its eyelet and 37.99 mm in width. It weighs 23.9 gram. The reissue serial number and the mint mark Monetni Dvor are located at the 6 o’clock position of its reverse.

This original order of the Red Banner is in a excellent, well above average condition. The details are crisp and the enamel is flawless without flaking or scratches. Much gold plating is present and covered with a lovely layer of dark patina as is the reverse of the order. Its connection ring has not been cut and the double sided steel suspension is time period to the award.

Reissue awards were given by the Soviet Government to a recipient; as a replacement piece; in exchange for the same order or medal of an earlier type which was no longer authorized for awarding by new regulations. The new reissue piece retains the serial number from the original award piece. Many early suspension or screwback awards were exchanged for the new type of award; particularly during the period immediately following the end of the Great Patriotic War. During the June 1945 Victory Parade in Moscow following the defeat of Germany in World War Two, soldiers participating in the Parade were expected to have the latest type of award on their uniforms and undoubtedly many were exchanged for that parade. These pieces are extremely rare.

Brief, concrete description of his feat of arms or achievements:

“As a result of comrade Sadikov’s; the entire Party-political apparatus’s, and all commanders’ efforts and proper and able leadership during the offensive operations conducted on August 24 and 25, 1942; the regiment, instilled with a fighting spirit, was the first to engage the enemy. The regiment breached the enemy line of defense and captured the towns of Bekrino and Zanino (Tyomkino District, Smolensk Province).

Over the course of the combat operations the regiment’s troops and commanders killed as many as 1000 soldiers and officers, knocked out 11 tanks, and took 11 German soldiers prisoner.

Comrade Sadikov was in command himself when an enemy counterattack was repelled. The German attack was fought off with the Germans suffering heavy losses.

Comrade Sadikov deserves the Order of the Red Banner.”
