For 20 years service in the Red Srmy

Made of silver and enamels. Measures 36.55 in width, 45.55 in height and weighs 24.0 grams without its suspension. Number ‘3’ is visible at the bottom of the front indicating this is the third Red Banner this awardee received. The minimum known serial number for this variation is 5773 and the maximum is 6879.

In a great, well above average condition with details crisp and light overall wear. The red and white enamels are well preserved and show a tiny superficial chip on the 9 o’clock ray of the center star only, barely visible with the naked eye. Much of the gold plating is still present and the reverse shows few dings and scratches. The order comes with a double layer steel suspension and its connection ring has not been cut.

His first Red Banner was awarded for inflicting huge losses to the Japanese. A brief description of his feats here:

Lieutenant Colonel Gofshtein engaged in battle with Japanese militarists on August 9, 1945. Advancing toward the city of Mutanchiang, his regiment encountered many disorganized Japanese sabotage groups and retreating units and battalions, with whom they engaged in combat.

On 21.8.45, the regiment entered the city of Mutanchiang and engaged in fierce urban combat with retreating Japanese forces. Lieutenant Colonel Gofshtein, being at the forward positions of the regiment, personally led the assault.

As a result, up to 250 enemy soldiers and officers were killed, and 15 soldiers were taken prisoner.

Comrade Gofshtein is deserving of the government award – Order of the Red Banner.
