Order of the Red Banner 2nd award #11791
Scarce variation with a ‘sloppy 2’
Awarded to Colonel of medical corps Ivan Nikiforovich Saenko (Иван Никифорович Саенко)
For 20 years of service in the Red Army
Made of silver and enamels. Measures 37.63 mm in width and 46.14 mm in height and weighs 20.2 grams without its suspension. The mint mark is located above the serial number in one curved line. Only a few of this variation were produced and the serial number ranges between 11709 and 11945 (Mondvor).
In about average condition with all details crisp. The red enamels are generally well preserved and without repairs but show a chip on the 9 o’clock ray of the center star. The white enamels are problem free apart from a minor, almost unnoticeable chips on the white enamel on top of the shield with the ‘2’. The order shows an attractive patina to the silver and much of the original gold plating is still present. Its connection ring is uncut and the double layer steel suspension is time period to the order.
Scarce piece with only a couple of hundred produced
