Awarded to Private Khando Martirosovich Pogosyan (Хандо Мартиросович Погосян)

 

For outstanding courage as a sapper during the Polish and German offensives, particularly during the forced crossing of the Oder River, where he transported troops and evacuated wounded under intense enemy fire, making up to twelve return trips per day

 

 

Made of silver and enamels. Measures 45.19 mm in width, 47.39 mm in height and weighs 25.2 grams without its suspension. The serial number is located on top of its reverse.

 

In nice, about average condition. Some of the raised areas show medium wear but a fair amount of details are still visible. Its enamels on the small red star and the lower banner are mostly present without repairs and show some minor flaking only. Its connection ring has not been cut and its double layer suspension is time period to the medal.

Brief and specific description of the personal feat or merits:

In the whole course of the offensive operations in Poland as well as in Germany, he proved himself as an excellent, disciplined, and reliable sapper. On 16 February 1945, during forced crossing of Oder river, he exhibited courage and bravery. Together with other sappers, he steered his boat and transported his regiment troops to the western river bank under enemy artillery and mortar fire. Then he evacuated wounded from the bridgehead back to the eastern bank. During the period 16-22 February 1945, he was making 12 return trips per day. He deserves order “GLORY III CLASS”.
