Duplicate Awarding
Made of solid silver. The medal for Bravery measures 37.44 mm in diameter and 2.61 mm in thickness at the very edge of the medal. The height of the medal is 42.27 mm (including the eyelet) and it weighs 27.4 grams without its suspension. The old serial number was erased, and a new number -together with a ‘D’ for duplicate-was engraved by the mint.This was done in a very distinctive style often seen with official duplicates.
The medal is in worn but decent condition with all details visible. The red lacquer is worn off and both sides show several dings and scratches. Its connection ring has not been cut and the medal comes with a double layer steel suspension.
Duplicate awards were (seldom) given to awardees who lost their award due to exceptional circumstances beyond their control like combat or natural disasters. Probably awarded early 1945 so with excellent research potential!
