Complete Documented Group of an Order of Glory, a Medal for Bravery and a Medal for Combat Merit

Awarded to Guards Cossack David Markovich Fridman (Давид Маркович Фридман)

 

For distinguishing himself through repeated acts of bravery during combat. He conducted effective reconnaissance under heavy fire during the Tisza River crossing, contributing to a major enemy retreat and personally killing five enemy soldiers

 

 

This group consist of the following items:

 

Order of Glory 3rd class #207326

Made of solid silver and enamels. Measures 47.14 mm in width, 48.88 mm in height and weighs 23.4 grams without its suspension. The serial number is located on top of its reverse.

This order is in a nice, above average condition with medium wear to the raised areas and most details in the tower still visible. The enamels are fully present and without repairs and show some small dings and contact marks only. The order shows a medium patina on both sides and its connection ring has not been cut. It comes with its correct double layer steel suspension.

 

Medal for Bravery #3043053

Made of solid silver and red lacquer. it measures 37.45 mm in diameter and 43.03 mm in height (including the eyelet) and weighs 27.4 gram without its suspension. Unlike most Bravery Medals, the eyelet of this medal has been screwed into the medal and not just soldered on top of it. The known ranges for this sub-variation are 1926271-1956637, 2407144-2539625 and 3010239-3212405. Please note that even though all screw-in variations fall in these ranges, most of the medals in these ranges have their eyelet attached the regular way.

The medal is in excellent , above average condition with most details crisp and relatively few dings and scratches. The original red lacquer is well preserved and over 80% is still present. Its connection ring has not been cut, and the medal comes with its period-appropriate suspension.

 

Medal for Combat Merit #538168

Made of solid silver and enamels. Measures 32.41 mm in diameter, 37.41 mm in height including its eyelet and weighs 18.5 grams without its suspension.

In about average condition for this serial number range with most details visible and numerous dings on both sides. The red lacquer is mostly worn off but a small amount is still present. Its connection ring has not been cut, and the medal comes with its time period suspension.

 

Order booklet

Its accompanying order booklet is in excellent condition with all pages firmly attached to its cover. It mentions the numbered awards above alone.

 

Several document 

The set includes several documents such as a pension certificate, Red Army soldier booklets, and a veteran ID. The old soldier booklets show significant wear, but the other documents are in good condition.

FRIDMAN Davyd Markovich – Guards Cossack, Jew, soldier of a 76mm gun in the 41st Guards Artillery Regiment, Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, part of the 11th Guards Cossack Cavalry Volhovatsky Don Red Banner and Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky Division. On October 24, 1944, during the crossing of the Tisza River under intense enemy artillery, mortar, and rifle fire, Cossack Fridman carried out active reconnaissance of enemy fire positions and troop concentrations. His actions led to a heavy strike on the enemy, forcing them to retreat across the river, abandoning significant equipment and suffering heavy losses in killed soldiers and officers. In this battle, Fridman personally killed five Hungarian soldiers with a machine gun. For his bravery and courage, he deserves a government award.

Despite heavy enemy fire, he restored the line quickly, enabling effective artillery fire control against the enemy.
