Awarded to Guards Major Georgy Romanovich Pazychko (Георгий Романович Пазычко)

 

For exceptional bravery in key battles. At Stalingrad, he led a counterattack that wiped out 200 enemy troops and captured 150 prisoners. At Kursk, he commanded a daring raid, liberating three settlements, seizing weapons, and eliminating another 200 enemies -personally killing 10 and taking out two machine-gun nests

 

 

Order of Kutuzov 3rd class #2031

Made of solid silver. It measures 43.11 mm in width, 44.01 in height and weighs 28.2 grams without its screwplate. the mint mark and serial number are stamped at the bottom of the reverse. On the top right side of the order a ‘1’ is stamped, often referred to as a ‘makers mark’.

In excellent, well above average condition, with attractive toning to the silver on both sides. The details remain sharp, with only light wear on raised areas like Kutuzov’s head. The distinctive circles on its reverse are perfectly preserved. Both sides have minimal dings and scratches, none of which detract from its overall appeal. There are no repairs, the long screwpost is unshortened, and the original period silver screwplate fits perfectly.

 

Order of the Red Banner #126967

Made of solid silver and enamels. It measures 45.30 mm in height, 37.01 in width and weighs 25.2 grams without its suspension.

In above average condition for a wartime, early suspension piece. The details are sharp, with only light wear on raised elements like the center wreath and torch. Aside from enamel loss on the 3 o’clock ray of the central red star, both the red and white enamels remain vibrant, with no flaking or repairs. Some original gold plating is still visible, and both sides show attractive silver toning. Its connection ring has not been cut and the order comes with its time period suspension.

 

Order of the Patriotic War 1st class #85556

Made of solid gold, silver and enamels. Measures 45.48 mm in height, 43.97 mm in width and weighs 31.6 grams without its screwplate. The mint mark Monetni Dvor in one line is located at the top of its reverse and the serial number at the bottom.

In well above average condition with an appealing toning to the gold and silver. The details are all crisp and both sides show few traces of wear. The red and white enamels are beautiful without chipping or repairs and show a few contact marks and dings only. Its silver screwpate fits well and the screwpost has not been shortened.

 

Order of the Patriotic War 1st class #242716

Made of solid gold, silver and enamels. Measures 45.52 mm in height, 44.33 mm in width and weighs 31.6 grams without its screwplate. The mint mark Monetni Dvor in one line is located at the bottom of its reverse as is its serial number.

In great condition, with a nice patina to the silver and gold parts. The details remain sharp and well-defined, with minimal wear even on raised elements like the hammer and sickle. The red and white enamels are vibrant and intact, showing only a few minor dings and no repair. The screw post remains full length, and the original screwplate fits perfectly and is period-correct.

 

Order of the Patriotic War 1st class 1985 jubilee edition #550886 with booklet

Made of gold plated silver and enamels. Measures 46.19 mm in height, 44.74 mm in width and weighs 27.4 grams without its screwplate.

In excellent condition with all details crisp and most gold plating still present. Its enamels are well preserved the order comes with its original, time period and well fitted screwplate.

Its booklet shows the matching serial number and is in problem free condition.

 

Order of the Patriotic War 2nd class #42091

Made of silver, gold and enamels. Measures 46.62 mm in height, 44.93 mm in width and weighs 26.2 grams without its screwplate. This early ‘starburst’ reverse order is produced by the Krasnokamsky Mint (KMD). The minimum known serial number for this variation is 34787 and the maximum is 71998. On the 5 o’clock position of its reverse a ‘8’ is stamped, often referred to as a ‘makers mark’.

In superb condition considering it is an early award. Its details are perfectly crisp and the edges of the raised hammer and sickle are well defined. The red and white enamels are well preserved and free from repairs. The extremely long screw has not been shortened but is slightly bent on top. Its original silver screwplate fits perfectly well.

Order of the Red Star #82414

Made of solid silver and enamels. It measures 47.35 mm in height, 48.78 in width and weighs 28.9 grams without its screwplate. This early variation has a round base ‘heel’ of the screw.

This beautiful order is in great, well above average condition with most details crisp. The red enamels are very well preserved and even the raised areas on its obverse show light wear only. The silver shows an appealing medium dark patina on both sides and its screw has not been shortened. The order comes with its silver screwplate which fits perfectly.

 

Order of the Red Star #3492150

Made of solid silver and enamels. It measures 46.26 mm in height, 48.13 in width and weighs 29.6 grams without its screwplate.

In near mint condition with beautiful enamels are a few contact marks only. Its screw has not been shortened and the order comes with its time period screwplate.

 

Medal for Bravery #136146

Made of solid silver. It measures 41.43 mm in height including its eyelet, 37.19 in diameter and weighs 31.3 grams without its suspension. Originally issued with a rectangular suspension, it was later fitted with a double-layer steel pentagon suspension to comply with the 1943 Soviet award regulations.

This medal is the only award in this grouping which is in lesser condition. The red lacquer has worn off and both sides show numerous dings and scratches. However, the details remain perfectly visible and its connection ring has not been cut.

 

Medal for Combat Merit 

Made of solid silver and red enamels. It measures 37.25 mm in height including its eyelet, 32.26 in diameter and weighs 19.6 grams without its suspension.

In excellent condition with crisp details and all of the red enamels still present.Its connection ring has been cut.

 

Military Academy Badge with document

Made of silver and enamels. It measures 46.17 mm in height, 26.35 in width and weighs 17.2 grams without its screwplate.

In great condition with all details visible and problem free enamels. Its screw has not been shortened and the badge comes with its original screwplate.

Its accompanying document is in in good condition and is dated 28 June 1960.

 

Order Booklet 

The group includes its original order booklet, in excellent condition with all pages intact and firmly attached to the cover. It lists all the mentioned awards and features an original photo of Major Pazychko.

 

Documents and picture

Several medal documents are present. Among which the medals for Königsberg, Victory over Germany, Warsaw, Moscow and Stalingrad. The group also contains a picture of Major Pazychko with the text “To my dear brother Georgy. Yakov 10.08.46”

Citation for the Order of Kutuzov:

In the combat operations of the brigade during the period from 23.04.1945 till 03.05.1945, Guards Major PAZYCHKO was a part of the operative group and relayed all the brigade Commander’s orders to their recipients and controlled their precise execution. Being assisted by the liaison officers attached to the brigade headquarters, he many times went to the fighting units positions and directed the combat operations. Guards Major PAZYCHKO initiative assisted the over success of the brigade.

As the result of 9 combat days, the brigade advanced along 300km route and captured 200 settlements. Acting independently of the main force and utilising swift decisive strikes, the brigade captured 3 towns and inflicted extensive casualties upon the enemy troops and materiel.

For excellent combat performance during the period from 23.04.1945 till 03.05.1945, the brigade was mentioned 7 times in the dispatches of the Supreme Commander in Chief Marshal of Soviet Union comrade STALIN. He deserves to be bestowed with order “KUTUZOV III CLASS”.

Citation for the Order of the Patriotic War 1st class #85556:

Aide to the Chief of Staff and the operations officer Guards major PAZYCHKO ensured and provided the brigade Commander with continuous governance and control of the troops deployed in the field during the combat operations period 24-30 June 1944.

On 29 June 1944, the brigade camp situated in the forest west of the village Sychkovo was attacked by a large enemy force, which was retreating and attempting to escape from Bobruisk.

The brigade rear and supplies units were cut off of the main force and a dire situation occurred – the enemy was pushing, but the ammunitions were running out. Following the brigade Commander’s order, comrade PAZYCHKO organised and led a small detachment, which broke through to the supply units and returned back with ammunitions. As the result of this effort, the brigade completely defeated the enemy: captured 1500 prisoners of war and eliminated up to 1000 enemy troops.

Citation for the Order of the Patriotic War 1st class #242716:

In the combat operations of the brigade during the period from 19.01.1945 till 15.02.1945, Guards Major PAZYCHKO was constantly present in the operative group. He relayed all the orders issued by the brigade Commander to the troops precisely and in proper time utilising all available signalling channels.

Efficiently leading the liaison officers attached to the headquarters, he maintained control over the execution of all the combat orders and missions.

On many occasions, when tense combat situation occurred, he personally ventured to the combat unit locations and provided effective assistance on the ground, thus ensuring success in battle, as for example during the attacks on the towns Brodnica and Tuchel.

Guards Major PAZYCHKO’s energetic and initiative work greatly assisted the brigade successes. Fighting its way through, the brigade advanced 300km, force crossed the rivers Turka, Sonya, Vkra; and captured the towns Drobin, Sierpc, Brodnica, Tuchel.

For its excellent performance, the brigade was bestowed twice with order “Red Banner”. He deserves to be bestowed with order “KUTUZOV III CLASS”.

Citation for the Order of the Patriotic War 2nd class #42091: 

In the combat operations for town Orel [Battle of Kursk] during the period 13-25 July 1943, he was constantly present among the fighting combat troops.

In the course of 2 day, he commanded the battalion, which was on a raiding mission ahead of the main force. Thanks to his effort, 3 settlements were liberated, 4 anti-tank cannon captured, and up to 200 enemy troops eliminated.

As a member of the operative council, he ensured proper command of the units on the ground and efficient chain of feedback information on the situation on the ground. All this was done despite hurricane of the enemy artillery-mortar fire and air strikes. He personally eliminated up to 10 Fritzes and 2 enemy machine-gun.

For courage and bravery exhibited in the combat operations against the Fascists and for inviting losses upon the enemy force, he deserves to be bestowed with order “PATRIOTIC WAR II CLASS”.

Citation for the Order of the Red Banner:

On the first day of the battle 04 September 1944, the tank corps entered the breach in the enemy defence in order to exploit the initial success. PAZYCHKO was constantly present in the operative group and relayed all the orders issued by the brigade Commander to the troops. Several times, he personally ventured to the spearhead detachment of the vanguard formation and gave the orders to the combat unit commanders.

On the brigade approach to the crossing site over the river Narew near the settlement Holendry, he went to the bank among the advance party and despite the intensive enemy fire organised the crossing forth main force. Under intensive enemy fire, the advance party and several staff officers, including PAZYCHKO, swam across tot the western bank of the Narew river. He organised combat coordination and, despite being wounded, remained on the battlefield maintaining the control over the troops, which repelled 14 strong enemy counterattacks during that day.

He deserves to be bestowed with order “LENIN”.

Citation for the Order of the Red Star #82414:

He commanded the battalion in the combat engagements for the settlements Perelazovsky, Maksari-Zotovskij, Manoilin during the period of 20-21 November 1942.

On 22 November 1942, he personally lead the counter-attack by a rifle company against the Rumanian forces, which resulted in that the battalion in total eliminated up to 200 Rumanian troops, captured 150 prisoners of war, 100 horses, and several vehicles.
