Description
Order of the Red Banner #444611
Interesting piece with partially hand engraved mint mark
Made of solid silver and enamels. Measures 45.15 mm in height including its eyelet, 36.13 mm in width and weighs 24.2 grams without its suspension. The serial number and the mint mark Monetni Dvor are located at the 6 o’clock position of its reverse.
In close to mint condition with much gold plating present although some is covered by a layer of patina. None of the higher parts on the obverse show any wear and the details are all crisp. The red enamels are beautiful and without repairs or flaking. Its connection ring has not been cut and the double layer steel suspension and ribbon are time period to the order.
Interesting to note is that the lower half of the two lined mint mark has been hand engraved. It seems that the stamp did not press deep enough to make the mint mark clearly visible as can be seen with the letter ‘й’ in Монетный. To correct this, the engraver of the serial number engraved the letters ‘Двор’. The patina and style clearly indicate that this was done at the same moment as the engraving of the serial number.
