Awarded to Lt. Vazgen Vaganovich Vartanyan (Вазген Ваганович Вартаньян)
For being wounded 4 times and fending off a German attack killing 15 Hitlerites with a machine-gun (Kurland Pocket)
Made of silver and enamels. Measures 49.73 mm in width, 47.87 mm in height and weighs 30.9 gram without its screwplate. The mint mark is located above, and the serial number underneath the screw post.
This order is in excellent with most details visible. The higher laying parts on its obverse show light wear only and there are few dings and scratches only to the silver. The enamels are problem free apart from the 3 o’clock ray of the star which has professionally been restored. This is done very nicely and we only noticed after viewing the pictures. Its screw has not been shortened and the screwplate is time period to the order.

Citation:
Comrade VARTANYAN is an active fighter on the Patriotic war since March 1942. He has been wounded 4 times defending the Motherland. His conduct in battle is exceptionally brave and decisive. He has been commanding a machine-gun platoon since June 1944 and proved himself as a capable combat hardened officer.
Having returned to the regiment after recovery from his wounds, he was sent to the machine-gun company on the same day. He quickly got acclimated in the unit and among the troops. On 30.10.1944, he was engaged in the new battle for the settlement Kraziski, where he again exhibited courage and bravery. During the combat engagement, a machine-gun crew was wounded and disabled. At the same time, the enemy attempted a counter-attack. Comrade VARTANYAN quickly exhibited initiative taking over the machine-gunner role. He fended off German attack killing 15 Hitlerites. The enemy counter-attack by a superior force was successfully repelled.
For exhibited courage, bravery, initiative, for his devotion to the Motherland, and for the shed blood, comrade VARTANYAN deserves state award – order “RED STAR”.
