Awarded to Master Sergeant Mikhail Vasilievich Selivanov (Михаил Васильевич Селиванов) 

 

For extraordinary bravery and technical skill, including heroic actions under enemy fire at Stalingrad, where he restored combat aircraft, kept hundreds of sorties flying, and saved ammunition trains during air attacks

 

 

Made of silver and enamels. Measures 49.84 mm in width, 47.85 mm in height and weighs 28.8 grams without its screwplate. The mint mark is located above, and the serial number underneath the screw post.

 

In nice, above average condition with most details visible and light to medium wear to the raised areas. The enamels are well preserved and show some contact marks and scratches only.Its reverse displays an attractive patina on a pockmarked surface, characteristic of this number range. Its screw has not been shortened and the well fitting silver screwplate is time period to the order.

 

Brief, specific, and clear statement of the personal combat feat or merit:

He has been the Patriotic war participant since its first days. In this period, he serviced 985 combat sorties, conducted 25 weapon system restorations, and recovered form the field four damaged IL-2, two MIG-3, and 1 YaK-1 aircrafts. In one of the relocation to a new airfield, he saved 12 rail platforms loaded with artillery ammunition during an enemy air strike.

For exhibited courage and bravery in servicing 215 combat sorties and 5 weapon system restorations, he was bestowed with medal “For Bravery” in December 1941.

After his bestowal, he serviced further 770 combat sorties and conducted 20 weapon systems restorations. While on Stalingrad front, he recovered four IL-2, two MIG-3, and 1 YaK-1 aircrafts from under the enemy fire. He personally is brave and courageous. Such as, on 24 September 1942, during the relocation from Stalingrad to Astrakhan, the transport train was subjected to enemy aerial bomb strike. SELIVANOV organised and participated in detaching brining rail wagons front the train. Despite being wounded, he saved from detonation 12 platforms loaded with artillery shells. He is very experienced in and knowledgable in the area of aviation weaponry repairs and maintenance. He is disciplined and an example to the whole technical staff of the unit.

He deserves a state award for his exemplary execution of the missions assigned by the Command, for servicing 770 combat sorties, for 20 weapon systems restorations, for recovery of 7 aircrafts, for saving 12 wagons of ammunition, and exhibited courage and bravery – order “RED STAR”.
