Description
Order of the Red Star #37500
Awarded to Medical instructor Fedor Grigorievich Shevchenko (Федор Григорьевич Шевченко)
For displaying exceptional heroism by rescuing 27 wounded soldiers, recovering 8 fallen along with their personal weapons, and carrying out multiple reconnaissance missions behind enemy lines using an aerosled
Made of silver and enamels. The order measures 49.29 mm in width, 47.44 mm in height and weighs 31.7 grams without its screwplate. The serial number is located at the 6 o’clock position and the mint mark on the 12 o’clock position of its reverse. This early variation has a round base ‘heel’ of the screw.
In excellent, well-above-average condition, especially for such an early Red Star. The raised details show light wear and remain largely visible. The enamels are well preserved, with a few small dings and a tiny chip on the 5 o’clock ray, barely noticeable to the naked eye.The reverse is equally nice condition, showing almost no traces of wear. Its screwpost is full length and the order includes the original period silver screwplate.
An early award with great eye appeal. Scarce as such
Brief, concrete description of his feat of arms or achievements:
“During the enemy attack near the village Krapivna on 14 February 1942, the enemy delivered hurricane of mortar fire, which inflicted losses on our troops. Comrade SHEVCHENKO exhibited exceptional heroism in rescuing the wounded of the different companies from under the enemy fire. In this engagement, he rescued and evacuated from the battlefield: 27 wounded and 8 killed with their personal firearms.
During the engagement itself, he inspired the enlisted men and the officers by his personal brave conduct. Disregarding the artillery and mine explosions, he went out to rescue his comrades. Comrade SHEVCHENKO F.G. has also many time participated in the reconnaissance missions behind the enemy line.
He deserves the highest state award – order “RED BANNER”. ”
