Soviet Order of the Red Star #35975

Awarded to Private Grigory Akimovich Makarov (Григорий Акимович Макаров)

For destroying an enemy pillbox, 4 enemy firing positions and 3 stone buildings located in the village Chernevo. All while being subject to enemy mortar fire

Made of silver and enamels. The order measures 48.69 mm in width, 47.23 mm in height and weighs 30.3 gram without its screwplate. The serial number is located at the 6 o’clock position and the mint mark on the 12 o’clock position of its reverse. This early variation has a round base ‘heel’ of the screw.

This original order of the Red Star is in an excellent, well above average condition. The details are mostly visible and the enamels are flawless apart from some minor contact marks. The reverse is in superb condition too with almost no dings or scratches and shows an appealing dark toning. There have been no repairs and the screwpost is full length. It comes with its time period and well fitted silver screwplate.

An early award with interesting research. Scarce as such

Brief, concrete description of his feat of arms or achievements:

“Comrade MAKAROV was given an order for a combat mission: to destroy an enemy pillbox from an open sights firing position. The objective was fulfilled and the pillbox had been destroyed. On top of that, operating again over open sights during 07-09 February 1942, he destroyed 4 enemy firing positions and demolished 3 stone buildings located in the village Chernevo. These buildings were used by the enemy for firing spots and housing. Under this action, his gun was subjected to enemy mortar barrage, but MAKAROV kept delivering fire until the objective was fulfilled. ”
