Awarded to Private Ivan Andreevich Nesterenko (Иван Андреевич Нестеренко)
For taking part in the night assault on High Malo-Tonnelnaya, where, as part of an attacking group, he crossed the border ahead of combat operations and led a surprise strike that destroyed six Japanese pillboxes and eliminated the garrison, setting an example of courage and initiative
Made of silver and enamels. Measures 48.05 mm in width, 45.58 mm in height and weighs 30.4 gram without its screwplate. The mint mark is located above, and the serial number underneath the screw post.
In excellent condition with most details visible but and light overall wear. The enamels are well preserved without repairs or chips and show some small conatct marks only. Its screwplate is time period to the order and the screw has not been shortened.
The order comes with its award booklet which is in very worn condition but all pages are present. This Order of the Red Star is the only order mentioned.
This lot also contains Nesterenko’s military ID which is also in worn but complete condition.
Brief translation of the citation:
Nesterenko took an active role in combat against the Japanese invaders during the assault on the defensive position at High Malo-Tonnelnaya. As part of the attacking group, he crossed the state border during the night of August 8 to 9, reaching the target on time before the operation began. Launching a sudden and unexpected strike, he attacked the enemy garrison, resulting in the destruction of six pillbox embrasures and the elimination of all enemy soldiers. His bold and courageous actions served as an example to his comrades.
