Description
Soviet Order of the Red Star #2262962
Mint error
Measures 47.86 mm in width, 46.56 mm in height and weighs 31.6 gram. The mint mark is located above, and the serial number underneath the screw post.
This original order is in nice condition with medium wear on the higher laying parts and most details visible. The red enamel shows a superficial chip on the tip of the 3 o’clock ray of the star but is otherwise problem free with contact marks only. The center medallion shows a larger dent on the right side of the soldier and there are several small dings and scratches on the silver. Its screw has not been shortened and the well fitted nut is time period to the order.
This piece appears to be a mint error with its inner circle on the center medallion showing a large curve at the bottom left side of the solder. This is highly unusual since soviet orders and medals were under tight quality control. Scarce as such!
Most likely awarded in the the second half ’45 so with nice research potential.
The Soviet Order of the Red Star was given to Red Army and Navy personnel for exceptional service in the cause of the defense of the Soviet Union; in both war and peace. Also awarded for 15 years of service prior to the creation of the long service awards.
