Order of the Red Banner #529247
Made of solid silver and enamels. Measures 47.02 mm in height including its eyelet, 36.50 mm in width and weighs 24.4 grams without its suspension. The serial number and the mint mark Monetni Dvor are located at the 6 o’clock position of its reverse.
In nice overall condition but with an eyelet repair. The red and white enamels are flawless without repairs and much of the original gold plating is still present. The higher laying parts on the obverse show light wear only and the details are all crisp. The reverse shows several scratches which seem to be the result of a conversion to a screwback variation. At some point this process was reversed and a new eyelet was soldered on top.
The Order of the Red Banner recognized military deeds. Before the establishment of the Order of Lenin, the order functioned as the highest (and practically the only) military order of the USSR. Practically all well-known Soviet commanders became Cavaliers of this Order. Also awarded to NKVD personnel.
