Order of the Red Banner #44901

Фролов Василий Иосифович

Awarded to Captain Vasilij Iosifovich Frolov (Василий Иосифович Фролов)

For commanding the left flank troops of our formation in the assault on the opposite edge of the grove “Kruglaya” [Demyansk pocket]. Despite imminent mortal danger, he was the first to rush into the trench and fired at the retreating enemy and thus inspired the troops by personal example and assisted to the success

Made of solid silver and enamels. Measures 40.19 mm in height, 36.10 mm in width and weighs 25.0 grams without its screwplate. The serial number and the mint mark Monetni Dvor are located at the 6 o’clock position of its reverse.

The order is in a nice, above average condition with light to medium wear to the silver base and much of the original gold plating still present. The higher laying parts such as the center wreath and the torch show most details. The red enamels are mostly present and in better condition than most screwback Red Banners despite some loss on the 3 and 6 o’clock rays of the the center star. The white enamels are flawless and also without repairs. Its screw has not been shortened and the order has not been (re)converted. It comes with its time period and well fitting silver screwplate.

Brief and specific description of the personal feat or merits:

Captain FROLOV commanded the left flank troops of our formation in the assault on the opposite edge of the grove “Kruglaya” [Demyansk pocket]. Despite imminent mortal danger, Captain FROLOV inspired the troops by personal example and thus assisted our success. At the critical moment in the engagement, he would advance forward and lead the troops into attack. He was the first to rush into the trench and fired at the retreating enemy. Captain FROLOV’s actions contributed to the success of our troops. For his combat feats, he deserves state award order “RED BANNER”.
