Researched Soviet Order of the Red Banner #266239

Awarded to pilot Lieutenant Nikolay Ivanovich Shiniberov (Николай Иванович Шиниберов)

 

For fighting at the cities of Stargard, Küstrin and Malnov, and Berlin with his IL-2 plane. As a result of his combat effectiveness, numerous targets were bombed and a FW-190 was shot down

 

 

Made of solid silver and enamels. Measures 44.93 mm in height, 37.07 mm in width and it weighs 26.3 gram without its suspension. The serial number and curved mint mark are located at the 6 o’clock position of its reverse.

This Order of the Red Banner is in a nice but worn condition. The details are crisp and the red enamels are mostly present apart from the 6 o’clock ray of the center star and a chip on the bottom of the large banner. The white enamel is all present and problem free and its connection ring has not been cut. The order comes with its time period double layer steel suspension.

 

Brief, concrete description of his feat of arms or achievements:

“During the period of participation on the front of the Patriotic War, since May 1944, as part of the 1st Belorussian Front, he made 30 successful sorties on the IL-2 aircraft, to destroy enemy personnel and equipment. For 10 effective combat missions, for the destruction of manpower and equipment of the enemy, he was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War 2nd class. After the first award, he made 20 subsequent sorties to attack and bombard cities: STARGARD, KÜSTRIN and MALNOV, as well as when breaking through the heavily fortified German defense on the outskirts of BERLIN.

On 03/02/1945, as part of a group of 6 IL-2 aircraft, being a wingman, he flew to attack the city of KÜSTRIN. As a result of a bomb attack, the group destroyed 2 houses and blew up an ammunition depot.

On 03/23/1945, performing a combat mission over the target KÜSTRIN, the group of IL-2 aircraft was attacked by enemy fighters. As a result of the ensuing air battle, one enemy aircraft FW-190 was shot down.

On 04/25/1945, as part of a group of 6 IL-2 aircraft, being a wingman, he flew to attack an artillery position south of the city of SEELOW, personally smashing 2 heavy field guns.

In more than 20 successful combat missions, he personally destroyed: up to 25 vehicles, 1 self-propelled gun, 8 railway cars, 10 wagons with cargo, created 5 fires, destroyed up to 10 houses, killed and scattered up to 35 German soldiers and officers and suppressed the fire of 2 batteries of anti-aircraft artillery.

His personal discipline is excellent, for March and April there are no penalties. The squadron has 3 penalties and 17 commendations for March and April.

His combat effectiveness is confirmed by the crews: Captain YURCHENKO, Senior Lieutenant RODICHEV and Lieutenant KOLODNIKOV. For 20 subsequent sorties, for the destruction of manpower and equipment of the enemy, he deserves to be awarded the order “RED BANNER”.”
