Order of the Red Banner #14755 ‘Mirror Reverse’ 

 

Awarded to Private Petr Fedoseevich Doroganov (Петр Федосеевич Дороганов)

 

For breaking out of encirclement on 7 July 1941, helping repel four attacks with accurate fire, killing several White-Finnish soldiers in hand-to-hand combat, and showing exceptional courage despite his helmet being pierced twice by enemy bullets

 

 

An early ‘Mirror Reverse’ variation with a strong counter relief. Made of silver and enamels. It measures 39.74 mm in height, 35.76 mm in width and weighs 24.2 grams without its screwplate. The serial number and mint mark are located at the 6 o’clock position of its reverse.

 

In decent, about average condition considering it is an early Red Banner. Its details are mostly visible but the raised areas like the center wreath and the torch show medium to strong wear. The white enamel is fully present without repairs and the red enamels show repairs on the center red star and the left side of the top banner. The reverse is in excellent condition with few traces of wear and full length screw. The order comes with its correct silver screwplate.

 

Brief and specific description of the personal feat or merits:

He is devoted to the cause of the Lenin-Stalin party and the Socialist Motherland. He is a skilful reconnaissance scout, who acts bravely and decisively when encountering the enemy.

On 07 July 1941, his reconnaissance platoon was on a scouting mission and was encircled by the enemy troops. Four enemy attacks were fended off. Comrade DOROGANOV’s precise small arms fire eliminated attacking enemies.

In ensued hand to hand fight, he eliminated several White-Finnish troops, thus exhibiting an example of courage. The platoon escaped enemy encirclement. Comrade DOROGANOV’s helmet was twice shot through by enemy bullets.

Comrade DOROGANOV deserves to be bestowed with order “RED BANNER”.
