Awarded to Lieutenant Aleksei Alekseevich Okhotov (Охотов Алексей Алексеевич)
For skillfully leading a reconnaissance platoon during the amphibious assault on Liinakhamari, ensuring the mission’s success through effective reconnaissance and observation, and personally showing courage by repelling an enemy group in night combat, killing up to 10 Germans and dispersing the rest
Made of solid silver, gold and enamels. The order weighs 28.0 grams without its screwplate and measures 43.36 mm in width and 45.07 mm in height. The serial number was engraved in a distinctive, familiar style over the original one, which had been removed by the Soviet mint.
In near mint condition with crisp details and all gilding present. Its red and white enamels are extremely well preserved without dings, scratches or repairs. Both sides show an appealing medium patina to the silver and the order comes with its time period and well fitted screwplate. Its screw has not been shortened.
Duplicate awards were given by the Soviet Government to a recipient, as a replacement piece, in exchange for the same order or medal of an earlier type or when awards were lost or taken due to exceptional circumstances. These pieces are particularly scarce.
A excellent example of a duplicate award with significant research. As this order was Lt. Okhotov’s only numbered award, it can be considered a complete grouping
Brief and specific description of the personal feat or merits:
Commanding a reconnaissance platoon of Captain Neberbutskiy’s detachment in the amphibious operation to seize the port of Liinakhamari, Comrade Okhotov skillfully organized reconnaissance and observation of the enemy and the battlefield, which ensured the successful accomplishment of the mission to seize Liinakhamari port.
In the daytime battle, when superior enemy forces began counterattacking Comrade Matyukhin’s company, Comrade Okhotov, with decisive actions of his platoon, helped the company repel the enemy’s counterattacks, showing personal bravery and courage.
In the night battle, he repelled an enemy group’s attack on the right flank of the defense, killing up to 10 Germans and dispersing the rest.
For skillful leadership of the platoon during the operation to seize the port of Liinakhamari, and for personal courage and bravery displayed, Lieutenant Okhotov is deserving of the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd Class.
