Awarded to Guards Sergeant Sergei Fedorovich Serov (Сергей Федорович Серов)
For assuming command of the platoon after the platoon leader was put out of action and providing uninterrupted communications throughout the subsequent fighting for the city of Rogachev
Made out of silver, gold and enamels. Measures 47.20 mm in height and 44.71 mm in width. It weighs which is 25.3 grams. The serial number and Leningrad mint mark are located at the bottom of its reverse.
In worn but decent condition. The white enamels are problem free and show some dings and scratches only and the the red enamels show a superficial chip underneath the bottom right side of the hammer and sickle. The enamel on the 7 o’clock ray of the red star has been replaced by epoxy. The reverse is problem free and shows few traces of wear. The order comes with its time period and well fitted silver screwplate and its screw has not been shortened.
Brief, concrete description of his feat of arms or achievements:
Guards Sergeant Serov, during the division’s combat activities while crossing the Dnieper River and breaking of the enemy defenses, proved himself a bold and valorous communications soldier.
On 21 February 1944, while under heavy enemy fire, he established communications between the division observation post and the 336th Guards Rifle Regiment commander’s observation post. During this engagement when the platoon leader was put out of action, comrade Serov assumed command of the platoon and provided uninterrupted communications throughout the subsequent fighting for the city of Rogachev, thus enabling the command to lead the regiment’s operation.
He is worthy of the presentation to the State award the Order of the Patriotic War II Class.
