Brief, concrete description of his feat of arms or accomplishments:
“For the defense of Odessa in 1941 and the defense of Sevastopol in 1941–1942 he has been awarded the Medal for Combat Merit and the Order of the Red Star.
Between February 13 and 28, 1943 the ship was continuously involved in supporting the Myskhako landings and providing supplies for them. By maintaining communications under systematic enemy artillery shelling, comrade Volosachov ensured the combat missions could be accomplished. During the disembarkation of the landing troops he disregarded the mortal danger and personally took part in unloading the combat vehicles, munitions, and provisions from the ship onto the shore, thus ensuring the task could be accomplished in the fastest way possible with only insignificant losses caused by enemy artillery shelling.
On May 22, 1943 the ship carried out combat missions close to the front line and was subjected to an attack by 17 Ju-87’s and 11 Me-109’s. As a result of the aerial bombardment, a fire arose close to the radio cabin. The cabin was filled with smoke and the flames started to draw closer to the cabin. The cabin’s paint caught fire. Comrade Volosachov exhibited exceptional bravery and courage and put out the fire at his battle station. He repaired the damage to the transmitter and under exceptionally difficult circumstances he transmitted the required wireless message to naval base command.
During the struggle to keep the ship seaworthy, he displayed bravery and resourcefulness. He skillfully fought the fires and the water entering the compartment.
Serving in the 1st Minesweeper Brigade as a chief of radiomen, he ensured the equipment functioned properly during the minesweeping sorties of all operational groups in Feodosia, Skadovsk, Yalta, Ak-Mechet, Yevpatoria, and Sevastopol.
Comrade Volosachov deserves the Order of the Red Banner.”
