Awarded to Senior Sailor Feofan Alekseevich Grigoriev (Феофан Алексеевич Григорьев)
For precise anti-aircraft fire that helped protect an ARMORED TRAIN during the 24 July 1941 attack, when his battery downed 4 enemy aircraft. In total, he personally shot down 2 planes and contributed to his battery’s destruction of 13 enemy aircraft during multiple engagements, remaining at his post even after being concussed
At the time of awarding, he was moved to the the destroyer “Stroyny”, and thus received a navy award
Made of gold plated brass. It measures 36.25 mm in width, 44.61 mm in height and weighs 21.6 grams without its suspension. Featuring admiral Nakhimov surrounded by 110 ‘pearls’. The serial number “5556” is stamped on the side of the medal. The minimum known serial number for this variation is 5997 the maximum is 16952.
In nice overall condition with relatively few dings and scratches. Its raised areas like Nakhimov’s head show medium wear and most details are still visible. There have been no repairs and both sides show a nice patina to the brass. The medal comes with its time period double layer suspension and old ribbon.

Brief, concrete description of his feat of arms or accomplishments:
He served as a gunlayer in 123 anti-aircraft artillery squadron [armored train 123] during the Patriotic war.
On 14-15 July 1941, he provided precise anti-aircraft fire of his gun. His battery shot down 2 enemy aircrafts.
On 24 July 1941, 4 enemy aircrafts were shot down, when they attempted to strike his AA battery and an armoured train.
On 27 July 1941, his AA battery was deployed on Kurgalsky peninsula to protect an airfield. Fighting enemy air raids, his battery shot down 3 enemy aircrafts during 11-14 September 1941. In particular, gunlayer comrade GRIGORIEV’s gun shot down 2 of these enemy aircrafts.
Since May 1942, his AA battery was redeployed to the town Borki to protect an airfield. In June 1942, his AA squadron was honoured with “Guards” title.
On 18 august 1942, the enemy conducted a massive air strike against the airfield. His AA battery shot down 4 enemy aircrafts. Many of our men were wounded in this enemy air strike. Nonetheless, despite only few men remained in line, the AA battery managed to fend off the enemy air attack.
Comrade GRIGORIEV sustained a light contusion in this combat engagement, but remained in line for the duration of the enemy strike.
He deserves to be bestowed with “NAKHIMOV” medal.
