Medal for the Liberation of Belgrade
Variation 3, Voenkomat
Medal for the Liberation of Belgrade: made of gilded brass. Measures 32.12 mm in width, 37.01 mm in height, including the eyelet and it weighs 15.4 gram.
This beautiful medal is in excellent condition. The medal shows almost no wear on either side and all details are crisp. Most gold plating is present and the aluminium suspension is time period to the medal. At the bottom right side of its reverse there is some oxidation.
‘Voenkomat variation’ medals are post-war issues that were awarded by a Voenkomat (Military Commissariat) at the veteran’s place of residence. The reasons for the late issue could vary but in most instances, the Voenkomat medals were “catch-up” awards to those who had taken part in the battle and then somehow overlooked by the awarding authorities during WW2 and in the immediate post-war years.
