Description
Medal for the Defense of Odessa
Variation 1
Made of gilded brass. Measures 32.28 mm in width, 37.27 mm in height including its eyelet and it weighs 16.0 grams without its suspension.
This medal is in nice, above-average condition with light to medium overall wear. The details of the soldier and sailor remain well preserved, and the lighthouse is still visible. Both sides show several small dings and scratches, but none diminish the medal’s overall appeal. The double-layer suspension is period correct, though the connection ring has been cut. The ribbon is also original to the medal and is folded incorrectly, a detail commonly seen on early wartime campaign medals.
Increasingly hard to find
This medal was awarded to all participants in the defence of Odessa. Both to soldiers and civilians, who took part in the defence of Odessa during its siege by German forces.
