Description
Medal for Combat Merit #285570
Made of solid silver and red lacquer. The medal measure 32.0 mm in diameter and 2.0 mm in thickness. The height of the medal is 37.1 mm (including the eyelet) and it weighs 16.9 grams without its suspension. The suspension measures 25.3 mm in width at its narrowest part and 31.4 at its widest point.
The medal is in well preserved condition with medium to strong wear to the raised areas but virtually all of the original red lacquer is present without repairs. It shows several small dings and scratches and both sides show a light patina to the silver. The suspension is fully original as is the nut; the plate holding the red ribbon and the screw tightening it all up. The connection ring has not been cut and its ribbon appears to be time period.
Most likely awarded in the first half of 1943. Great research potential
This military medal awarded for “combat action resulting in a military success”, “courageous defence of the state borders”, or “successful military and political training and preparation”. Also awarded for 10 years of service prior to the creation of the long service awards.
