Honored Road Builder Badge #33 (NKVD)
This badge is made of gold and silver plated brass and enamels. It measures 43.90 mm in height, 31.70 mm in width and weighs 13.0 grams without its screwplate. Its low serial number ’33’ can be found on the top of its reverse.
In overall good condition with crisp details and light wear. A fair amount of the plating on its reverse is still present and the blue and red enamels are generally well preserved but show a small chip on the top red star. Its screw has not been shortened and the badge comes with it original screwplate which fits smoothly.
Untill STalin’s death all major road building in the USSR was under direct control of NKVD (MVD) which supplied slave labor for the construction projects. The NKVD and its Gushosdor Agency awarded the Pochyotnyi Dorozhnik (i.e. “Honored Road Builder”) badges to best engineers, managers and even some of the “rehabilitated” prisoners.
