Description
Partisan Medal 1st class
Variation 1 without a raised rim on its obverse
Considerably more scarce compared to the later variation
Made of solid silver. It measures 32.32 mm in diameter and 3.01 mm in thickness. The height of the medal is 37.82 mm (including the eyelet) and it weighs 21.7 grams without its suspension.
This early medal is in excellent, well above average condition with its details perfectly crisp and an appealing toning to the silver. Both sides show relatively few dings and scratches and none distracting from its overall appearance. The silver connection ring has not been cut and the double layer steel suspension is time period to the medal.
Scarce variation and hard to find in this condition
The Medal “To a Partisan of the Patriotic War” (Russian: Медаль Партизану Отечественной войны) was a World War II Soviet award established in two classes. This was done on February 2, 1943, by decree of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. It recognised the courage of the partisans in their struggle to free the Soviet Motherland behind enemy lines. Its statute was amended by a further decree of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR in 1947.
