Partisan Medal 1st class
This Partisan Medal is made of solid silver. It measures 32.23 mm in diameter and 2.79 mm in thickness at the very edge of the medal. The height of the medal is 37.56 mm (including the eyelet) and it weighs 22.32 gram.
This original medal is in excellent, well above average condition with all details visible. Even the eyelids of both Lenin and Stalin are crisp and the often worn down hammer and sickle at the bottom of the obverse is mostly present. Both sides show some small dings and scratches and little overall wear. The connection ring has not been cut and the steel suspension belongs to the medal.
The Medal “To a Partisan of the Patriotic War” (Russian: Медаль Партизану Отечественной войны) was a World War II Soviet award established in two classes. This was done on February 2, 1943, by decree of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. It recognised the courage of the partisans in their struggle to free the Soviet Motherland behind enemy lines. Its statute was amended by a further decree of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR in 1947.
The Medal “To a Partisan of the Patriotic War” was awarded in two classes.
- The first class medal was awarded to partisans and to leaders and organizers of partisan units. It was awarded for outstanding achievements in organizing the guerrilla movement. For bravery, heroism and outstanding achievements displayed in the partisan struggle. In the occupied territories of our Soviet Motherland far behind the Nazi lines.
- The second class medal was also awarded to partisans and to leaders and organizers of partisan units. It was awarded for personal distinction in combat, in the execution of orders and command assignments. Also for active support of the guerrilla struggle against the Nazi invaders.
