Awarded to Lieutenant Colonel Mikhail Matveevich Uksusov (Михаил Матвеевич Уксусов)

 

For playing a key role in organizing and managing personnel records for the Belarusian partisan movement, creating a database for approximately 50,000 partisans despite limited staff. His efficient work and leadership significantly contributed to the growth and effectiveness of the partisan forces during the war

 

 

This group of Soviet awards consists of the following items:

 

Order of the Red Banner #510788

Made of silver and enamels. Measures 44.80 mm in height, 36.15 mm in width and it weighs 24.5 grams.

This Red Banner is in excellent condition, with sharp details and most of the gold plating intact, though covered by a layer of patina. The red and white enamels are extremely well preserved, with no chips, flaking, or repairs. Its suspension ring remains uncut.

 

Order of the Red Star #781370

Made of silver and enamels. Measures 48.54 mm in height, 49.99 mm in width and it weighs 30.2 grams without its screwplate.

In excellent, well above average condition, especially for a relatively early award. The enamels are intact and free of chips or repairs. The raised silver details remain sharp. The screw has not been shortened, and the screwplate is original to the period.

 

Order of the Red Star #3015973

Made of silver and enamels. Measures 47.53 mm in height, 48.76 mm in width and it weighs 30.7 grams without its screwplate.

In superb condition with flawless ruby red enamels. The details on the soldier are still crisp and both sides show few traces of wear. Its screw has not been shortened and its screwplate is time period to the order.

 

Medal to a Partisan of the Patriotic War 1st class

Made of solid silver. Measures 36.82 mm in height, 32.22 mm in width and it weighs 21.5 grams.

In excellent, well average condition with most details visible and an appealing patina to the silver on both sides. Even the eyelids of both Lenin and Stalin are crisp and the often worn down hammer and sickle at the bottom of the obverse is still visible. Both sides show several tiny dings and scratches but little overall wear. Its silver connection ring has not been cut and the double layer steel suspension and ribbon are time period to the medal.

 

Medal for Combat Merit #3076571

Made of silver and lacquer. Measures 37.36 mm in height, 32.18 mm in width and it weighs 18.3 grams.

In excellent condition with most of the original red lacquer still present. The details on saber and rifle are still crisp and both sides show relatively few dings and scratches. Its connection ring has not been cut.

 

Order of the Patriotic War 2nd class #5797064

Made of silver and enamels. Measures 46.82 mm in height, 45.67 mm in width and it weighs 27.2 grams without its screwplate.

In pristine condition with flawless enamels and a nice patina to the silver. Its screw has not been shortened and the order comes with its matching screwplate.

 

Medal for the Defense of Moscow 

Made of brass. Measures 37.36 mm in height, 32.31 mm in width and it weighs 16.0 grams.

Beautiful example with most of the original gold-like luster still present on both sides and few traces of wear. Its connection ring has not been cut.

 

Medal for the Victory over Germany 

Made of brass. Measures 37.48 mm in height, 32.15 mm in width and it weighs 17.2 grams.

In equally great condition as the medal for the Defense of Moscow with full luster and few dings and scratches only.

 

Order of the Red Star #781370 Citation:

Comrade Uksusov, working in the Headquarters of the Belorussian Partisan Movement since December 1942, has devoted great attention to keeping records of the personnel of the partisan detachments of Belarus. In a short period, short staffed in the department, he carried out colossal work on establishing a record database of partisans, and on processing lists received from detachments and brigades. In total he created records for approximately 50 thousand partisans.

He is responsive to the inquiries and complaints from the families of partisans in regard to drawing up documents for benefit payments, as well as searches for [missing] partisans. He processes documents in a cultured and professional manner. He is respectful in addressing partisans and their families. He is disciplined, demanding of himself and his subordinates. He commands authority among his comrades. He is politically developed, ideologically mature. He is devoted to the Party of Lenin and Stalin and the Socialist Motherland.

 

Partisan Medal Citation:

Comrade Uksusov has served in the partisan movement system since October 1942 in the positions of assistant chief, senior assistant chief, and subsequently deputy chief of the personnel department. During his period of service, Comrade Uksusov has proven himself a hardworking, competent, and disciplined worker. He has carried out a great deal of work on records, awardings, and conferral of ranks for partisan cadres. He works on selecting partisan cadres and is responsive to the inquires and needs of the partisans. He quickly and correctly makes selections of and deploys leadership cadres, and through his labor has significantly facilitated the development of the partisan movement in Belarus.
As a fully trained officer, Comrade Uksusov skillfully educates and directs his subordinates.

He is politically and morally stalwart and educated. He is respectful and social in interactions with comrades. He is tidy and fit in appearance.

He is devoted to the cause of the Party of Lenin and Stalin.

He fully merits awarding of the Medal “Partisan of the Patriotic War” 1st Class.
