“Attached to the 454th Rifle Regiment, Lieutenant Dmitriyev and a group of sappers numbering 15 men cleared 5 minefields in front of the enemy’s front line in a timely manner. Under his personal supervision, over the course of two days, up until the end of August 4, the following mines were removed; 680 PMD-6 wooden anti-personnel mines, 400 POMZ-2 anti-personnel fragmentation mines, and 245 YaM-5 antitank mines.
On the night of August 4 to 5, 1943, he cleared passages through the enemy minefields. At a distance of 30-40 meters from the enemy’s front line, he was spotted by the enemy, but in spite of heavy enemy fire he inspired his troops, through his personal fearlessness, and ensured that the combat mission could be accomplished in a timely manner, without his group suffering casualties.
On August 5, under heavy enemy fire, Lieutenant Dmitriyev himself helped a group of tanks get through the passages in the minefields without sustaining any losses.
Through his fearlessness; inspiring his troops through personal example; Lieutenant Dmitriyev ensured that the infantry and tanks could get through the minefields in the 454th Rifle Regiment’s zone of advance without suffering any losses.
For the bravery and fearlessness he displayed in combat with the German invaders, Lieutenant Dmitriyev deserves to be awarded the Order of the Red Banner.”
