Description
Soviet Order of the Red Banner #239051
Made of solid silver and enamels. Measures 36.95 mm in width and 44.92 mm in height and weighs 23.9 gram. Its serial number and mint mark are located at the 6 o’clock position of its reverse.
This original WW2 order of the Red Banner is in excellent, well above average condition. The details are crisp and the enamel only shows minuscule dings, barely noticeable with the naked eye. The gold plating is mostly present and its reverse is problem free. The connection ring has been cut and the award comes with an old double layer steel suspension.
Probably awarded in May 1945 so great research potential!
The Order of the Red Banner recognized military deeds. Before the establishment of the Order of Lenin, the order functioned as the highest (and practically the only) military order of the USSR. Practically all well-known Soviet commanders became Cavaliers of the Order. Also awarded to NKVD personnel.
