Order of the Patriotic War 2nd class #328289

Сергей Михайлович Пимешков

Rare variation with a hand engraved mint mark

Awarded to Captain Sergej Mikhailovich Pimeshkov (Сергей Михайлович Пимешков)

For courage during a heavy enemy counterattack on 8 March 1945, disabling one tank, setting another ablaze, scattering enemy infantry with point-blank fire, and holding their position against superior forces

Made of solid silver, gold and enamels. The order weighs 26.2 grams without its screwplate and measures 45.49 mm in width and 47.98 mm in height. Its mint mark “Monetny Dvor” is hand-engraved, added later by the mint to correct a missing mint mark.

In excellent condition with all its details visible and light overall wear. The beautiful red and white enamels are very well preserved and show some minuscule contact marks only, no chipping or repairs. Most of the gold plating on the edges of the 5 pointed star is still present although some of it is covered by dark patina. The order comes with its original, time period screwplate and its screw has not been shortened.

Beautiful piece with excellent research and a hand-engraved mint mark, very rare and especially scarce in this combination.

Brief description of his feat of arms or achievements:

On 08 March 1945, the enemy attempted a large counter-attacked at our defending troops. The enemy attack was intensively supported by the armour, artillery, and airforces. The artillery firing positions, where comrade PIMESHKOV was present at the moment, was assaulted by up to 2 enemy infantry platoons and 3 tanks. Comrade PIMESHKOV engaged in an uneven fight and led his troops by the personnel example of courage and bravery. One of the enemy tanks was disabled and the other was set ablaze by the precise shots of his artillerymen. The attacking enemy infantry was scattered by the point blank artillery fire. Thus our artillery men stood their ground.

For courage and decisive conduct in the battle, for frustrating the German attack, comrade PIMESHKOV deserves state award – order “PATRIOTIC WAR II CLASS”.
