Medal for the Defense of Stalingrad
Variation 1 with a separately attached eyelet and old celluloid protection cover
Made of brass. Measures 32.11 mm in width, 37.06 mm in height including its eyelet and weighs 16.7 grams without its suspension.
In above average condition with its details still well defined and a medium patina to the brass. Both sides show several dings and scratches but none distracting from the overall appeal of the medal. Its connection ring has not been cut and the early double layer suspension is time period to the medal.
The owner clearly took pride in this medal and preserved it carefully. A celluloid cover was added to protect the ribbon, leaving it in good condition and fully original.
Awarded to all Soviet military and civilians who participated in the defense of Stalingrad between July and November 1942.
