Awarded to the Estonian Private Kalju Savisaar son of Erno (Калью Сависаар Сын Эрны)
For pursuing the retreating enemy near the village of Nõmme [Talinn, Estonia] while being part of a reconnaissance squad in an operation on 22 September 1944. Savisaar displayed bravery and leadership, helping to overpower the enemy, capturing four prisoners, killing two, and seizing the enemy’s headquarters wagon train. The captured prisoners provided important intelligence on the enemy’s battalion-sized force in the area
Medal for Bravery #1706183
Made of solid silver. The medal for Bravery measures 37.35 mm in diameter and 2.55 mm in thickness. The height of the medal is 42.29 mm (including the eyelet) and it weighs 26.6 grams without its suspension.
The medal is in nice condition with its details perfectly visible. Even the raised parts like the rivets on the side of the tank and the canons show light wear only. The red lacquer appears to be professionally restored and its connection ring has not been cut.

Variation 1b with a separately soldiered eyelet and the word ‘войне’ on its reverse further apart from the curved text ‘Германией’
Made of brass. Measures 32.11 mm in width, 37.50 mm in height, including the eyelet and it weighs 17.6 grams without its suspension. This medal is in decent, above average condition with medium overall wear.
Brief and specific description of the personal feat or merits:
Private SAVISAAR Kalju son of Erno was a part of the reconnaissance squad led by the Sr.Sgt. KHAKI on 22 September 1944.
The reconnaissance squad pursued the retreating enemy along the advance route of the 7 Estonian rifle division. In the vicinity of the village Nõmme, the recon squad was subjected to enemy machine-gun fire.
Private SAVISAAR acted bravely and resourcefully during this enemy liquidation operation and was leading the other men by personnel example. The enemy resistance was overpowered: 4 enemy soldiers were taken prisoner, 2 killed, enemy unit headquarters wagon train was captured.
The captured prisoners gave valuable intelligence on the enemy force stationed in the area (up to a battalion).
Private SAVISAAR is disciplined and politically educated. He is recommended for a state award – medal “FOR BRAVERY”.
