Citation of the Order of the Red Banner #121901

Brief and specific description of the personal feat or merits

The battery commander comrade MOREV provided close artillery support to the rifle combat formations and suppressed the enemy firing positions and the other enemy forces during the offensive operation near the settlement Visochani (south-west of Vytebsk) during 23-25 June 1944.

On 23 June 1944 near the village Osipovichi, providing artillery support during the Luchesa river crossing, he scattered up to a company of enemy troops.

On 24 June 1944 near the village Bolshie Kalinovichi, he scattered and partially eliminated up to 2 platoons of enemy infantry. During 28 June to 18 July, the battery was on the march from the town Senno to the river Nieman. In this march, he efficiently commanded his unit and the battery was always ready for combat deployment.

27 June 1944 near the village Tsna and Yakimenki, he provided artillery support to our rifle units in the field and scattered and partially eliminated up to a company of enemy troops.

On the western bank of Nieman river (north of Dorsunishki), he was among the rifle forward line and participated in fending off 4 enemy attacks. He had to utilise both his personal firearms and his battery firepower. The enemy armour passed through and appeared in the rear of our formation. Despite this, comrade MOREV stood his ground. With the fire of his unit he cut off the enemy infantry from their tanks, scattered and partially eliminated up to a company. Thanks to this effort, the enemy attack was frustrated and our force held the bridgehead on the Nieman river.

During the preparation period for the next offensive, comrade MOREV was stationed on the western Nieman bank. He maintained personal coordination to the commander of the supported rifle company. With the fire of his battery he cat short any enemy attempts to counter attack and push our troops off the western Nieman bank.

During 20-29 July 1944, his unit eliminated and dispersed up to 2 infantry companies and hit one armoured personnel carrier.

On 29 July 1944, after the initial artillery barrage, he and his unit went into the assault together with our rifle forward troops. Sometimes he advanced even ahead of the supported rifle company commander and cleared the way with his firepower. Near Pušogrod, one “Ferdinand” SPG forced our troops to seek cover on the ground. It was necessary to call in the artillery support and force the SPG into silence. Comrade MOREV (and his unit) crawled towards the “Ferdinand” and opened fire at a distance of 800m. At this moment he was wounded, but didn’t leave the battlefield until after the SPG was suppressed and our infantry could continue their advance.

Comrade MOREV deserves state award – order “RED BANNER”.
