Research of the Order of the Red Star:
“During the organizational formation of the division and the strengthening of the party organizations of the guard, Captain Ferkel skillfully organized work on the growth of the party. Being daily in parts of the division, he persistently and painstakingly taught the party organizers the matter of studying and educating the personnel and preparing them for the battle. As a result of the assistance rendered to them, the primary party organizations during the period of the march and preparation for battles from 07/13 to 08/06/43 accepted the best fighters and commanders into the ranks of the All-Union Communist Party/b/609.
Fulfilling the task of the command of the division before the start of the offensive battles of the division, comrade Ferkel organized party control and assistance to the communists in ensuring the rear of the division’s combat readiness.
During the period of offensive battles, being directly in the active units, he helped the primary party organizations in the alignment of party forces and, carrying out party educational work with the communists, ensured their leading role in the battle.
Despite a number of responsible tasks of the command to ensure the battle, comrade Ferkel managed to recruit the best Red Army soldiers and commanders, who had distinguished themselves in battles, into the ranks of the party during the period of battles and between battles. During the pursuit of the division of the retreating enemy near the city of Krasny, Guards Captain Ferkel carried out the tasks of the command to control the supply of ammunition, being in the forward advancing units of the division, risking his life.
For the exemplary performance of the combat missions of the command and the courage and bravery shown at the same time, he is worthy of being awarded the order of the Red Star.”
Research of the Bravery Medal:
“Comrade FERKEL Friedel Zakharovich – answer. the secretary of the party commission, being in the operational group of the political department, was repeatedly sent to units that were conducting offensive battles with the enemy. He successfully carried out a number of combat missions of the brigade command, which ensured active offensive operations of the units in the defeat of enemy manpower and equipment. In fierce battles with the Nazis near the village of Nefedovo on November 27-28, 1942, a serious threat of encirclement by the enemy was created for the 4th separate rifle battalion at a time, when the battalion commander was out of action due to a wound. With skillful and decisive actions, comrade FERKEL, under enemy fire, ensured the exit of all units of the unit along the Baturin road and took the necessary measures to preserve the materiel of the battalion.
In the battles near the city of Bely on December 6-7, 1943, comrade FERKEL helped the command in a short time to organizationally select and concentrate the 2nd separate rifle battalion at the starting line, ensuring the swiftness of the offensive strike of this unit against the enemy.
During the hostilities from November 25 to November 24 to December 24, 1942, on the battlefield, he systematically dealt with the issues of admission to the party and the analysis of personal cases for communists who had penalties and distinguished themselves in battles, as well as those who violated party discipline.
With Bolshevik adherence to principles and ardent intolerance in the fight against the German occupiers, comrade FERKEL, with a lively and intelligible word, kindles the hearts of Soviet soldiers – Stalin’s volunteers, captivating them with his impulse and example to defeat the hated enemy. Courage, stamina, personal bravery – these are his distinguishing qualities.
Comrade FERKEL is quite worthy of being awarded the medal “For Bravery”.”
