Awarded to Colonel Arkhip Ilyich Baranov (Архип Ильич Баранов) and Sr. Lieutenant Evdokia Mikhailovna Mamontova (Евдокия Михайловна Мамонтова)
Awarded for exceptional service in personnel management, Baranov consistently ensured flawless officer accounting, processed hundreds of rank and award cases under heavy wartime workload, and played a key role in strengthening the 70th Army’s command staff. Lt. Mamontova maintained a fully functional surgical department under extreme conditions and personally performed dozens of lifesaving surgeries while treating over 700 wounded

Order of the Patriotic War 2nd class #312776
Made of gold, silver and enamels. Measures 47.93 mm in height, 45.68 mm in width and weighs 27.6 grams without its screwplate.
This order is in great condition. The silver shows few dings or scratches on either side and the beautiful red and white enamels are problem free without repairs or chipping. The long screw has not been shortened and the order comes with its original, well fitted screwplate.
Order of the Red Star #778576
Made of solid silver and enamels. Measures 48.42 mm in width, 46.99 in height and weighs 27.3 grams without its screwplate.
In excellent condition with most details visible and light wear to the raised areas. Both sides show relatively few dings and scratches and the enamels are very well preserved without repairs. Its screw has not been shortened and the order comes with its time period screwplate.
Order of the Red Star #3098090
Made of solid silver and enamels. Measures 47.34 mm in width, 45.85 in height and weighs 30.9 grams without its screwplate.
In near mint condition with crisp details and a nice even dark patina to the silver on the center medallion. Both sides show virtually no dings and scratches and the enamels are perfectly preserved. Its screw has not been shortened and the order comes with its time period screwplate.
Order Booklet
In excellent condition with all pages firmly attached to its cover. It mentions the three numbered awards above and a Medal for Combat Merit which is not present. The first page shows an original picture of Baranov wearing his awards. The booklet is numbered 367011 and dated December 1, 1945. Note its consecutive number with Mamontova’s booklet and the identical date.

Order of the Red Star #1080008
Made of solid silver and enamels. Measures 49.12 mm in width, 47.49 in height and weighs 31.2 grams without its screwplate.
In excellent condition with most details visible and light to medium wear to the soldier. Both sides show several small dings and scratches but none distracting from the overall appeal of the order. The enamels are very well preserved without repairs or chips. Its screw has not been shortened and the order comes with its time period screwplate.
Order Booklet
In excellent condition with all pages firmly attached to its cover. It mentions the Red Star alone shows an original picture of Mamontova wearing her awards. The booklet is numbered 367012 and dated December 1, 1945. Note its consecutive number with Baranov’s booklet and the identical date.

Major Baranov has served in the 70th Army since its formation. He carries out all assigned personnel duties fully. He knows the reporting and accounting requirements of the Main Personnel Directorate of the NKO well and applies them correctly.
He constantly works to improve personnel procedures, especially the study of officers and political workers. He pays attention to strengthening discipline and improving the officer corps of the army.
He has done major work on preparing materials for awarding military ranks. In just the last three months he prepared materials for 117 people; 333 officers received military ranks by front orders. In total, 948 personnel files were processed in three months.
During 1944 he prepared attestation materials for officers to be submitted to the Front Command. In total 343 award submissions were completed.
Disciplined and diligent. Shows initiative. Does not count working hours and fulfills tasks on time. Deserves a government award, the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd Class.

Comrade Baranov has been with the 70th Army since the day of its formation. Until October 1943 he served as assistant to the head of the Army Personnel Department, and in October 1943 he was appointed assistant to the head of the Personnel Department of the Army Rear Services.
He successfully fulfills the duties assigned to him. He knows officer accounting and reporting well, in accordance with the instructions of the Main Personnel Directorate of the NKO of the USSR, and applies them correctly in daily practice.
The accounting and reporting required by the instructions are in good order. Through personal interviews and visits to units, he continually studies the officer personnel of the rear units and army institutions, which contributes to properly and qualitatively staffing the army’s units with officers.
He carried out extensive work on awarding subsequent military ranks, on attestation, and on awarding initial officer ranks.
Only in the last three months, attestation materials were prepared for 162 officers, and 117 officers received promotions by Front orders. Award materials were prepared for 417 officers, and 283 of them were awarded.
Disciplined and diligent. He approaches his work with exceptional conscientiousness and demonstrates sound initiative. He works without regard for time or any conditions.
Worthy of a government award, the Order of the Red Star.

Comrade Mamontova, Senior Lieutenant, works in the medical battalion as a surgeon and later as the head of the surgical department. She is energetic, efficient, and fully dedicated to her work. Under her leadership the surgical department has an excellent reputation and consistently maintains full operational readiness.
During the most recent period of intensive surgical work, the department treated over 700 wounded. The work was carried out under extremely difficult conditions: the department had to redeploy three times, moving with the wounded over distances of up to 300 kilometers.
During the entire period of combat activity, approximately 3,000 operations were performed in the department. Of these, she personally performed 68 operations.
Thanks to her competent leadership, the department maintained excellent sanitary and operational conditions.
