Complete Documented grouping of a Medal for Bravery and a Red Star

Awarded to Sailor Aleksei Yakovlevich Sergeev (Алексей Яковлевич Сергеев)

For exceptional bravery during multiple combat operations from 1942 to 1944, including landing missions, evacuations under fire, and logistics support in Arctic conditions. He repeatedly risked his life to aid the wounded, repel enemy aircraft attacks and fulfill critical assignments

The group consists of the following items:

Medal for Bravery #27246

Made of solid silver and enamels. The medal measures 37.13 mm in diameter and 2.96 mm in thickness. The height of the medal measures 41.78 mm (including the eyelet) and the medal weighs 29.6 grams without its suspension. The suspension measures 25.24 mm in width at its narrowest point and 31.37 mm at its widest point.

The medal is in excellent, well above average condition with its details perfectly visible and crisp. The enamels filling the lettering are fully present and original and both sides show several dings and scratches but none destracting from its overall appeal. Its connection ring has been cut and its mondvor screwplate is correct for the medal and fits well. Its silver plated brass suspension is authentic, including the plate with the ‘teeth’ which keeps the ribbon into position.

Rare piece

Order of the Red Star #1019321

Made of silver and enamels. Measures 47.54 mm in height, 49.30 mm in width and weighs 30.9 grams without its screwplate. The mint mark Monetni Dvor and the serial number are located on its reverse.

In a nice, problem free condition with medium wear to the raised areas on the silver medallion. The enamels are without repairs and fully present without chips. Both sides show a medium toning to the silver and the order comes with its time period and well fitted screwplate.

Order booklet

The booklet itself is in good condition, with all pages intact and securely attached, and it correctly lists the two awards mentioned above. Unfortunately, a scammer later added fake serial numbers to inflate the grouping; these have been crossed out in pencil.

He provided first aid to wounded soldiers of the 12th Separate Naval Rifle Brigade.

Citation of the Order of the Red Star

Brief and specific description of personal combat feat or merit:

In June 1942, he took part in the evacuation of the remnants of the 12th and 63rd brigades and other units from the Kola Peninsula to Ozerko Bay. During the evacuation, Comrade Sergeev, under heavy enemy fire, helped bring two wounded men to shore and showed great bravery and courage.

From July to August 1942, while serving in SK-22, he was involved in towing barges and BA-6 armored cars under difficult conditions across the Sredny Peninsula, during the re-deployment of coastal units under enemy fire.

In September 1942, SK-22 and other boats of the division participated in landing operations involving naval infantry against the enemy.

In April 1943, SK-22 reached Cape Ponachevny and Pumanki Bay, where the landing took place under harsh conditions, including enemy air and artillery attacks.

In 1944, during an evacuation from Ozerko Bay, while under heavy artillery fire, Comrade Sergeev, under command, carried out the landing and loading of wounded personnel onto SK-22. The vessel suffered only minor damage from shelling.

From September to October 1944, he participated in a mission to Kara Sea and Dixon Island, spending 13 days at sea while also carrying out various command assignments related to an American convoy and landing on Bely Island.

All of these missions were performed under very difficult conditions. Comrade Sergeev remained on duty for several days without rest.

For courage and precise execution of his duties in combat against German invaders, Senior Red Navy Man Sergeev is deserving of the Order of the Red Star.

The complete translation of the research can be read here. Interesting to see Sergeev’s the citation to his Bravery Medal was confirmed and signed by both Admiral Platonov and Admiral Golovko
