Citation for the Order of the Patriotic War:

He has performed all assignments regarding combat readiness checks and party-political work in the units boldly and persistently; in battle, he is brave and decisive. After the Deputy Head of the Political Department and the Information Instructor were put out of action due to wounds, he temporarily fulfilled their duties. In this role, he proved himself well.

In difficult combat conditions, he showed bravery and persistence—organizing party-political information, the delivery of ammunition, the evacuation of the wounded, and provisioning for the personnel. He worked a great deal and conscientiously on all these matters. Despite any difficulties, he completed the work accurately and on time. For honesty, bravery, and selflessness in work during the offensive operation, Comrade Gorokhovtsev deserves the State Award: Order of the Patriotic War, 1st Class [later downgraded to a 2nd class].

Citation for the Red Star:

During the defensive and offensive July and August battles, Senior Lieutenant Gorokhovtsev proved himself to be a courageous, persistent, and proactive worker for the newspaper ‘Stalin’s Warrior.’

By assignment of the Political Department, he spent his entire time among the units, helping the political apparatus educate the personnel in steadfastness and offensive spirit. Through his articles in the newspaper regarding examples of heroic actions by soldiers and commanders, Comrade Gorokhovtsev mobilized the personnel for new feats in the struggle against the German invaders. Day and night, he informed the soldiers and commanders about the situation on the fronts of the Patriotic War and the combat deeds of subunits and individual soldiers.

For selflessness, initiative, and courage shown during the days of heavy fighting, I recommend Senior Lieutenant Gorokhovtsev for the State Award: Order of the Red Star.
