Citation of the Order of the Red Banner:
Taking part in breaching the permanent enemy defences in the Pusté Jakartice – Velké Hoštice sector, the 4th Battalion, commanded by Captain I.F. Kurinny, demonstrated skill and cohesion while carrying out the crucial and difficult task of destroying a bunker.
Superbly leading his units and skilfully arranging combat situations, Captain Kurinny managed to execute the assignments entrusted to him in an exemplary manner: spending only a small number of shells, the battalion pulverized 3 large bunkers on the 100th Lvov Rifle Division’s main axis of advance, which enabled our infantry and tanks to successfully and quickly push forward in the direction of Troppau and the subsequent capture of the city.
Constantly providing artillery support for the infantry, Captain Kurinny, who promptly and ably moved his battalion’s firing positions forward, executed all combat missions assigned to him perfectly, to which a combat report from the 100th Lvov Rifle Division’s artillery commander, containing a recommendation to nominate comrade Kurinny to be decorated with the Order of the Red Banner, bears testimony.
He fully deserves to be awarded the Order of the Red Banner.
