Awarded to Guards Lieutenant Vladimir Sergeevich Alaferdov (Владимир Сергеевич Алафердов)
For leading his battery as a tank ridden mobile party. Inspiring his men by personal example of courage and bravery, he was the first to inter the village Izvoz and set ablaze 3 buildings used by Fritzes as firing positions, destroyed 8 pillboxes, captured 5 prisoners and much materiel
This order of the Red Banner made of solid silver and enamels. Measures 39.68 mm in height, 36.20 mm in width and weighs 24.9 gram. The serial number and the mint mark Monetni Dvor are located at the 6 o’clock position of its reverse.
The order is in an excellent, well above average condition with light overall wear and much of the original gilding present. The raised areas such as the center wreath and the torch show their details perfectly well. The original enamels are fully present and in far better condition than most screwback Red Banners. Its screw has not been shortened and both sides show an appealing patina to the silver. The order has never been (re)converted and comes with its time period and well fitting silver screwplate.
Brief and specific description of the personal feat or merits
In the battle against German invaders on 15 February 1943, commander of 45mm artillery battery Guards Lieutenant ALAFERDOV led his battery forward as a tank ridden mobile party. Inspiring his men by personal example of courage and bravery, Guards Lieutenant ALAFERDOV was the first to inter the village Izvoz 15 minutes before our infantry troops could reach this village. Skilfully manoeuvring and directing his artillery fire, Guards Lieutenant ALAFERDOV set ablaze 3 buildings used by Fritzes as firing positions, destroyed 8 pillboxes, demolished 30 meters of snow wall. With comrade ALAFERDOV direct involvement, 5 prisoners were captured and the following materiel: 37mm canon, 1 light machine-gun, 4 rifles, 2 raid stations, 2 horses, food depot, and others.
For exhibited military skill, bravery and courage, he deserves state award order “RED BANNER”.
