Medal for Bravery #12810

Васильев Вячеслав Петрович

Awarded to Guards Colonel Vyacheslav Petrovich Vasilyev (Вячеслав Петрович Васильев)

For actions in Finland

Vasilyev was highly decorated with an Order of Lenin, two Red Stars and a Red Banner

Made of solid silver and enamels. It measures 37.12 mm in diameter and 2.75 mm in thickness. The height of the medal is 41.84 mm (including the eyelet) and the medal weighs 28.0 grams without its suspension. The suspension is a replacement for the rectangular suspension it was originally attached to. This was the result of new 1943 regulations on wearing Soviet awards.

The medal is in excellent condition few traces of wear and its details are perfectly visible and crisp. The enamel filling the lettering is fully present and original and both sides show few dings and scratches only. Its original silver plated brass connection ring has not been cut.

The soldering on the backside could have originated from a screw that was soldered to prevent it from moving. Although the screw has been removed at a later point, some residue remains.

Scarce award for Finland

The translation of the record card can be read here

These pre-WW2 awards generally do not have citations but from the citation of his Red Star it can be read that he received this Medal for Bravery for participation in the struggle against the Finns.
