Soviet Ushakov Medal #8945
To Senior Seaman Vasily Nifontovich Pletenets (Василий Нифонтович Плетенец)
Made of solid silver. Measurements; 35.89 mm in width; 48.42 mm in height. Weight; 32.8 gram without its suspension. Featuring admiral Ushakov surrounded by 84 ‘pearls’. The serial number, “8945”, is located on the reverse of the medal. The minimum known serial number is 9 and the maximum 15704.
This Ushakov Medal is in excellent condition. There are several dings and small scratches and the higher laying parts show medium wear although most details are perfectly visible. All parts of the suspension are original and time period including the silver chain, the ribbon and the double layer steel suspension itself.
The corresponding document mentions this medal of Ushakov only and is dated the 6th of June 1946. In excellent condition with no loose pages.

“Serving as an engine man throughout the Mobile Post’s period of combat operations near Karolino-Bugaz; he handled the assignments unit command charged him with in an excellent manner. The Mobile Post was subjected to constant enemy artillery shelling. Owing to his excellent knowledge of the materiel he was entrusted with; comrade Pletenets in an efficient manner ensured the Mobile Post functioned continuously. Black Sea Fleet vessels always have a reference point available to them when they need it in order to set off on a combat mission. When enemy artillery severed the line of communication; comrade Pletenets, while under fire, repaired the cable. Through his efforts comrade Pletenets contributed to the operation’s successful outcome.
