Awarded to Guards Master Sergeant Alexej Petrovich Filyakov (Алексей Петрович Филяков)
For repelling 8 enemy counterattacks at the Dnieper river, destroying 9 enemy machine-guns and up to 200 (!) enemy troops in the process
Ground dug
Made of solid silver. The medal itself measures 37.42 mm in diameter and 42.31 mm in height including the eyelet. It weighs 27.1 gram without its suspension and 35.3 gram with the suspension but without nut. The eyelet is 5.73 mm in diameter and the suspension measures 25.12 mm in width at its narrowest point and 31.60 at its widest point.
In great condition considering this medal is a ground dug. Its higher laying areas like the rivets on the side of the tank and the canons show almost no wear and all details are still visible and crisp. Being a ground dug, almost all of the lacquer filling the lettering and most of the ribbon has deteriorated although some of the original red ribbon is still present underneath its suspension plate. The silver suspension is original to the medal and its connection ring has not been cut. On request we can deliver a new ribbon for display purposes without additional costs.
Brief and specific description of the personal feat or merits:
During 01 October to 01 November 1943, he distinguished himself in the combat engagements for capture and enlargement of the bridgehead (in the Dniepropetrovsk region) on the right bank of the Dnieper river. He was constantly present among the supported rifle formations. Firing from open sight positions, his gun repelled 8 enemy counterattacks, destroying in the process 9 enemy machine-guns and up to 200 enemy troops.
