Soviet State Prize Medal 3rd class #2535

 

1955-1966

 

 

Made of gold- and silver-plated German silver. It measures 29.32 mm in height including its eyelet, 25.82 mm in width and weighs 8.7 gram without its suspension. The suspension is authentic to the medal and measures 24.73 mm in width at his widest point and 15.89 in height at its narrowest point. The medal is numbered #2535 on its reverse.

 

In superb condition with sharp edges, full gold plating and few traces of wear. The letters on the reverse are crisp as is the serial number. The suspension includes its time period and original ribbon, rectangular plate, hexagon nut and screwplate. The connection ring between the suspension and the medal has not been cut and its screw has not been shortened.

The Soviet State Prize he was the successor of the Stalin Prize which was awarded during 1941-1955. Stalin Prize holders could exchange their medals and documents for the appropriate of the State Prize in the age of de-Stalinization. The State Prize of the USSR is the second most important and monetary award in the USSR after the Lenin Prize, awarded in the USSR in the period from 1957 to 1991. When the State Prize of the USSR was founded, it came with a bonus of 5,000 rubles (half the size of the Lenin Prize). Among the awardees were writers, scientists, artists and up to 100 people were awarded these annually.
